3 Civic Plaza plans unveiled for Downtown Surrey (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)

International hotelier Marriott International will add one of its 'Autograph' buildings to Central City's emerging new hub.



If the futuristic renderings presented on Tuesday are any indication, the City of Surrey has big plans for 3 Civic Plaza, the condo/hotel development set to prominently feature in the Central City skyline.

In the video above, provided by Edelman and Century Group, residents, shoppers, and stayers are shown in the planned neighbourhood around 3 Civic Plaza, with a final shot showing a man looking out from his room over the greater Surrey and Vancouver area, with city lights below him, and the mountains and setting sun on the horizon.

(The Minority Report-like cars, space-like earrings and air-ified iPads are certainly a presumptive artistic touch.)

The hotel in the plaza will be a high-end Marriott International hotel – a part of its ‘Autograph’ series – a partnership that was announced at the grounds on Tuesday.

“We worked hard to find the right hotel partner for Civic Hotel and Autograph Collection is a natural fit,” said Sean Hodgins, president of Century Group. “It allows us to create a boutique and independent feel for the hotel, while at the same time sharing in the benefits of Marriott’s global sales and marketing channels.”

The hotel is part of a mixed-used tower that includes hotel rooms, office space and strata units.

The bottom floor will feature the restaurant for the Civic Hotel, while the 13 floors above will have 144 suites for hotel guests. The next 34 storeys will be 330 residential units. The development will also include office space.

The $125-million project is being built at the Surrey Civic Plaza, near 103 Avenue and University Drive, the location of the new City Centre Library, city hall and future mixed-use performing arts centre building.

Construction of 3 Civic Plaza began earlier this year, and the completion date is expected by the fall of 2016.
