White Rock’s Rhodes signs baseball scholarship with Washington Huskies

Pitcher signs NCAA after verbally committing in 2015

White Rock baseball player David Rhodes is heading to the college ranks.

Last week, the teenage pitcher – who played for the White Rock-South Surrey Baseball Association as a youngster, before moving to the Whalley organization, and beyond that, U.S.-based select clubs – signed his official letter of intent to play next season for the University of Washington Huskies.

Rhodes had been a verbal commit to the Seattle-based university since the fall of 2015, but due to NCAA signing rules, was not eligible to sign on the dotted line until recently. He signed his scholarship papers Nov. 13 at the Inside Pitch Baseball Facility in Blaine, Wash., with a handful of family members, friends and former White Rock-South Surrey teammates in attendance.

“I love the city and want to help bring a championship to a place that has given me so much,” Rhodes, in an official University of Washington news release, said of his decision to attend the school.
