A weekend of 'firsts' at Fraser Downs

Two rookies have winning races, plus a winning combination with a fraternal flavour.

Labour Day weekend marked several "firsts" at Fraser Downs Racetrack and Casino.

On Sept. 2, rookie Michael Munoz had his first career win driving his own horse, Dirt Roads Scholar, gate to wire, in 1:56:1.

It was only the second race ever for Munoz, who qualified as a driver last month.

Cloverdale's Mark Abbot also picked up his first career win. He and Van Can Tastic got the job done crossing the wire in 1:59:4.

On Sept. 1, owner C and S Nyuli, trainer Travis Tracey and driver Serge Mass had a winning combination.

Together they had three wins, but what makes it unique is that all three horses are from the same mare, making them siblings.

Live racing resumes Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
