Notes from the Backstretch

Friday, Feb. 28 at Fraser Downs was the Rick White show.

White won three races with horses that he trains and drives. The most impressive came from a three-year-old filly named T Squared. This daughter by Allamerican Cobalt out of the very good race mare, Samantha Square (23 lifetime wins, over $460,000 earned and a race mark of 1.51.3), was making her 2014 debut. T Squared won her one and only 2013 start as well but then had health issues and was not able to strut her stuff.

What is the deal with Sunday and snow? Once again on March 2 the horses at Fraser Downs were in the snow.

Driver Jim Marino came away with four wins in the slop which included Cantbeatacheetah for owner Shelley Eng in the Open race.

If your horse’s name started with the letter “E”, it meant you won an elimination race for the Clarence Gagnon Memorial stake race. Excessive and Eden Shooter will square off in the $20,000 final at Fraser Downs this Sunday with post time at 12:45.

Racing resumes on Friday at 7 p.m. with the $20,000 Muriel Fornwald stake race as the feature.

Ante up

Do you think you are a better poker player than the Harness Drivers at Fraser downs?

You can find out Saturday, March 8. If you eliminate a driver, you receive a $50 bounty and a Homestretch buffet for two.

With your entry fee into the poker tournament, you are entered into the handicapping challenge for Fraser downs on March 9 with $1,000 in prizes.

What a great crossover, you might knock out the Driver playing at your table but then you might be asking him for handicapping tips for the Fraser downs live races the next day.

See you there!
