Surrey Beavers to don pink jerseys for Rucking for a Cure
Rugby fans are invited to come out to a day of sport and awareness this weekend at Sullivan Heights Park.
The Surrey Beavers Rugby Club hosts three games in a family-friendly match in support of the Canadian Cancer Society as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
It's hoped Rucking for a Cure will bring the rugby community together and highlight awareness of the women and men living with breast cancer.
There will be three divisional games at the club's home field, getting underway at Oct. 27 at 144426 64 Avenue Surrey.
The division three Surrey Beavers take on Ridge Meadows Bruins at 11:30 a.m., followed by the division two match, Surrey Beavers vs. Langley at 1 p.m., and the division one match of Surrey vs. Langley at 2:30 p.m.
Surrey's players will be wearing pink socks and jerseys, because it "wouldn't be a breast cancer fundraiser without a little pink," according to club president Rob Brown.
The public is welcome to come out to watch the matches. Hotdogs and pop will be available by donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
After the event, the Beavers will auction off their pink game jerseys at the clubhouse in Cloverdale, located at 17395 57 Avenue.
Donations to Rucking for a Cure can also be made through the Canadian Cancer Society.
