Cloverdale Curling Club goes postal
The 46th Canadian Postal Employees Curling Classic gets underway at the Cloverdale Curling Club this weekend.
The 2012 Classic kicks off with an evening reception March 31.
The opening ceremonies are at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, April 1. Founding member Barry Swanton of Cloverdale will be throwing the first rock.
Swanton, who was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006, was part of the original group of Canada Post employees in Winnipeg who started the curling classic in 1966. Swanton, also a member of the Postal Curling hall of fame, says he hasn't curled in a while, but is raring to get on the ice to help launch the event.
Teams from each province are participating in the 2012 classic, running to April 7.
A different host city is chosen each year.
