Winter blast cancelled races at Fraser Downs

Winter-like cold weather and a dusting of snow resulted in the cancellation of Sunday’s card at Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino.

The featured race was scheduled to be the $15,000 Abbetross Claiming Series Final which will now go this coming Sunday, June 22, resuming its original posts with the morning line favourite being Red Star Cash following an impressive win in a leg of the eliminations.

Fraser Downs trackman Darcy Perdue had an inkling the weather was taking a troubling turn when the Surrey oval was hit with snow late during Friday night’s card.

The $5,000 Miss Onager Claiming Series divisions were not interrupted on Friday as Shes Rarin and Kg Tigress delivered winning efforts.  With Tim Brown in the sulky, Shes Rarin paid $7.40 to win as the 5-2 favourite.  Keith Clark’s Kg Tigress ($6.40) won by two lengths over pacesetter Red Star Brooklyn (Scott Knight).

The Miss Onager series will continue Friday night (7 p.m.). Sunday’s card will begin at the regular start time of 1:45 p.m.

Weather permitting, of course.
