Fraser Downs hosts B.C. Breeders Classic

There will be living racing tomorrow afternoon at Fraser Downs Racetrack and Casino, when the Cloverdale landmark hosts the annual B.C. Breeders Classic Day.

More than $230,00 in purse money is on the line on Nov. 11. Races begin at 1:45 p.m., and include four stakes races.

The biggest are the $75,000 Robert Murphy Stakes for three-year-old colts and geldings and the $75,000 Mary Murphy Stakes for three-year-old fillies.

Canada's leading driver, Scott Zeron, a 22-year-old based in Ontario, will be making a special appearance.

Zeron will donate his winnings to the Royal Canadian Legion.

The son of trainer/driver Rick Zeron, and has already registered 482 wins and $6.9 million in earnings as of Nov. 5.

"Those numbers come after an amazing 2,608 starts this year alone," says Jackson Wittup, director of racing at Fraser Downs, explaining, "A driver back east on the busy Ontario circuit can work two tracks on the same date."

Zeron will be driving Stepuptotheplate in the Robert Murphy stakes against Gramrun Jake. Boom Shazam is also being described as a hot contender.

Just Fiction, with 14 wins out of 17 career starts, is a favourite for the Mary Murphy. Imherefortheparty is expected to provide serious competition for Just Fiction.

There's also racing on Saturday and Sunday, at 1:45 p.m. both days.
