Letter: What's the policy?

To the editor;

I was surprised to find that the Muslim community in Surrey received a special “prayer room” in the new public library.

Recently, the Surrey School Board would not allow a private Bible study to use a classroom after school hours, because they didn’t want to be seen as “endorsing” a religion. But now I learn that public funds are being used to facilitate a particular religion, with a prayer room being built specifically for Muslims “facing East to Mecca.”

In Toronto, the schools have turned cafeterias into Muslim prayer rooms on Friday afternoons, replete with Muslim clerics coming to lead prayers.

Are Canadian governments officially endorsing Islam now?
