The new owners of the Red Barn in Cloverdale have given the heritage buildings a new coat of paint, in a different colour – brown.

Readers weighed in on our Facebook page.

“It looks modern, but I think the red made it stand out and was more memorable,” said Reporter reader Kristy Hill.

“I also liked the red barn,” added Marilyn Guthrie.

Others were more receptive. “Hm, we could get used to that!” piped in Jonas Lee Photography. “It looks really nice,” added Chris Vanderstoep, who admitted the trademark red will be missed.

When told that a store that sells modern furniture has moved into the familiar Highway 10 and 176 Street corner location – former home of Cloverdale’s now defunct Red Barn Antiques for more than 40 years – Kathleen Kuryliw said she promised to check it out. “Will miss the red yet.”

Jo-Anne Maynes was glad to see a new business coming to town, but also admitted to feeling a little sad to see the red go. “Looks fresh, however, guess we can’t call it the Red Barn anymore.”
