Following a foiled fraud attempt, White Rock RCMP are reminding the public that police never call asking for money to keep a loved one out of jail.

Const. Chantal Sears said a woman arrived at the Pacific Avenue detachment on Nov. 7, on the phone with a male caller who had identified himself as a White Rock Mountie.

The caller, the woman told police, told her that her husband had been arrested for money laundering and that she would have to pay $2,330 to keep him out of jail, Sears said.

The call display, Sears noted, showed the woman’s husband’s phone number.

Police were unable to trace the call.

Sears advised anyone receiving a similar call to not give out any information or send money.

Questions or concerns can be addressed at the detachment (15299 Pacific Ave.), or by calling 778-593-3600.

Such calls may also be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by calling 1-888-495-8501, or online at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca
