A black jeep was dumped on its side after being hit by an RMCP police cruiser on Monday afternoon.

A police officer and a woman were sent to hospital after a RCMP cruiser and another car collided in Newton this week.

A 3:30 p.m. Monday, an RCMP squad car was responding to a robbery call and the officer apparently had the lights and siren on as he travelled southbound on 144 Street. As he approached 64 Avenue, the police car struck the front passenger side of a black Jeep.

The collision pushed the police cruiser into a southeast corner of the intersection, where it was hit by a red Toyota Tundra.

The police officer and the woman in the Jeep were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The RCMP Traffic Services is investigating. Until that investigation is complete, police can't say whether charges will be considered.
