Surrey RCMP Tasered a Newton man after he approached them in an "assaultive" manner this week during a domestic dispute.
The 33-year-old man was allegedly highly intoxicated and engaged in a violent altercation, allegedly, with his spouse," RCMP Cpl. Drew Grainger said Friday, adding the 26-year-old woman was pregnant. "She is reporting being slapped."
She told a friend, who in turn, called police at just after 8 p.m.
Grainger said when RCMP arrived to the home in the 8000-block 134 Street, the man was "actively resistant" with the police "to the point where he became assaultive" to one of the police members.
An RCMP member shot the man with a Taser, which didn't activate the electrical pulse, so the weapon was used on him again and it fired correctly, Grainger said.
The B.C Ambulance Service was called for the man, who was determined to be okay.
