An elderly man is dead after a suffering a fall while trimming his tree in Port Kells.

On Wednesday morning, the 76-year-old was up a ladder cutting a large limb – about a foot in diameter – at his home in the 17700 block of 97 Avenue.

The limb swung down and knocked him 15 feet to the ground, then the cut branch fell from the tree on top of the man.

RCMP could not say if high winds were a factor, but it appears the limb of the tree was being cut in an unsafe fashion.

His name is not being released at this time.
