A man has been arrested in relation to an alleged sexual and physical assault of a woman in Whalley late last month.

On Sunday, Sept. 27 at about 4:30 p.m., a man assaulted a woman in a wooded area near 140 Street and Fraser Highway.

The suspect fled and the woman was hospitalized.

After a public plea from Surrey RCMP last week, on Oct. 1, Helmer Sinisterra-Mosquera, a 35-year-old from Surrey, was arrested.

He has been charged with sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm and overcoming resistance by choking.

“The Surrey RCMP wishes to thank the public, media, and our policing and community partners for their assistance in this investigation which led to the quick apprehension of this male,” said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann.
