A former Surrey School District administrator and administrative assistant did not enter guilty pleas in court Wednesday as expected.
Instead, Robert (Bob) and Barbara Chadwick's lawyers and a Crown prosector appeared to ask the judge to delay the matter.
"We are looking at a possible disposition, but it's taking some time to resolve," said Crown prosecutor Stephen Cooke. "We need more time."
The Chadwick's were criminally charged last summer in connection with alleged schemes which diverted thousands of dollars from the district to themselves.
Both were charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. Robert was also charged with breach of trust by a public officer.
Bob, an associate superintendent and Barbara, his administrative assistant, resigned abruptly in October 2006.
In 2009, the school district launched a civil suit against them, accusing them of large-scale fraud and kickback schemes involving thousands of dollars. That suit was settled out of court in March, with the Surrey Board of Education agreeing to dismiss the lawsuit in exchange for $78,000 from the Chadwicks.
An investigation of Robert by the B.C. College of Teachers is pending. Barbara wasn't subject to a teachers' college investigation because she was an administrative assistant and not required to be certified by the professional organization.
A new court date has not been set.
