SURREY — A 16-year-old Surrey girl is missing and police hope someone can help find her.

Juleena Utsunomiya was last seen in Guildford on Feb. 10. She is five feet five inches tall, 100 pounds and has brown eyes and shoulder-length black hair. She was wearing a green jacket, blue jeans, black boots and was carrying a backpack.

Police say it is very unusual for her to be away for this long without contacting her family, who are concerned for her well-being.

Asked why police didn't alert the public earlier, Sergeant Alanna Dunlop said, "We have followed up on a number of investigational leads since this was reported to us. We are at the point that we want to reach further in the hope that someone she knows or others that may have seen her could let us know specifically where she is so that we can confirm in person. It is our understanding through our investigation to date that she has been in contact with family through social media."

The Surrey RCMP is asking anyone who knows where Utsunomiya is to contact investigators at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, quoting file number 2017-18921.
