Dozens of people gathered at Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Cloverdale campus today to remember the victims of the Montreal Massacre.

Dec. 6 is a National Day of Mourning and Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. It coincides with the anniversary of the 1989 murder of 14 female students at the Ecole Polytechnic.

In Cloverdale, the names of the victims were read out as students came forward to light 14 candles in their memory – and one large candle to represent all women harmed in violence.

They also left single stemmed red roses on the memorial, set up near the campus book store.

A hush fell over the cafeteria and foyer as students and staff observed a minute's silence near the end of the ceremony, one of several taking place at Kwantlen's campuses today.
