Surrey RCMP are investigating three fires set at homes in Cloverdale early Sunday morning.

Three fires set between 3 and 5 a.m. Sunday morning appear to be intentionally set. Nobody was injured but there was extensive property damage to the front entrances of the residences involved.

In two cases, Halloween decorations were set on fire.

The first report involves at a townhome in the 6900-block of 188 Street, where a suspicious fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. Oct. 28.

A neighbour helped put out the fire, and alerted the tenant. Police received a tip about an unknown spotted leaving the area before the fire was set, but the physical description is vague.

About an hour later, at 4:30 a.m., Surrey RCMP were called to another suspicious fire at a residence in the 6600-block of 187A Street. The home's occupants called the fire department after smelling smoke.

At 5 a.m., police were called out to a third residence in the 6400-block of 189 Street, where another homeowner smelled smoke and called the fire department.

There are no suspects at this time, but police are hoping to speak with anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity and to monitor video surveillance in the area.

With Halloween approaching, Surrey RCMP are reminding the public that extra police resources will be deployed and to report anything suspicious in their neighbourhoods to police.

"We rely on the community to be our eyes and ears," says Sgt. Drew Grainger.
