22 marathons against Bill 22
North Vancouver teacher Ian Cunliffe (right) and Surrey teacher Caroline Bentley ran through Surrey Thursday (Aug. 30), at the tail end of an effort to complete 22 marathons this month to protest the provincial government's Bill 22.
Cunliffe began his journey Aug. 8 in Sparwood, not far from the Alberta border, and is expected to finish Friday (Aug. 31) in Vancouver.
The legislation halted last year's job action by B.C. public school teachers and imposed limits on future contract bargaining. Cunliffe says he was inspired by his students and his inability to meet their diverse needs in the face of funding cuts to classrooms.
