Japan needs sisterly help on its path to recovery

After the initial shock and horror starts to fade, it is vital to understand that Japan is just starting to recover from the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Her citizens need our help.

Did you know British Columbia shares sister-city status with 34 Japanese cities? Among those B.C. cities are New Westminster, Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Hope, Mission and Abbotsford.

The Red Cross is collecting funds to help pay for sheltering 350,000 people. Black Press is opening BCDailyDeals.com to collect donations for four days starting Monday, April 4.

Satoshi Sugai, Director International Relief Division, Japanese Red Cross Society says, “This financial support is very much needed and continues to be welcomed to help the hundreds of thousands of lives that will forever be changed by this disaster."

The Canadian Red Cross has also been part of a high level support team that recently deployed a disaster response specialist to Japan. The team is assisting the Japanese Red Cross in addressing current critical gaps and in creating longer term recovery plans.

Please consider how your donation can help mobilize a wave of humanity. Encourage your friends and family to donate too as we wrap our arms around the Japanese people when they need us most.

Every donation will be entered to win $100 deal bucks every day.
