Ladies’ Night Out is coming to Cloverdale this Nov. 30.

The popular shopping night, hosted by the Cloverdale Arts and Entertainment Association (CAEA), is now in its fourth year, and organizers said this year is shaping up to be their biggest one yet.

The idea behind the evening, according to CAEA president Helena Lloyd, is to launch the Christmas shopping season and to encourage the community to come shop in Cloverdale.

But really, what it boils down to is a customer appreciation night, said Lloyd.

Businesses along 176 Street in downtown Cloverdale will open their doors from 5 to 9 p.m., offering refreshments and great shopping.

“Everyone offers treats, whether it be baked goods or cheeses or more, and refreshments,” said Lloyd. “You can wander through the shops that have balloons tied in front of their storefront, and shop the deals.”

The familiar shops will also host vendors, in order to “enhance the shopping experience,” said Lloyd.

“We call it Shop in a Shop,” she said, explaining that businesses are encouraged to invite their suppliers into their store for the night to sell their wares in booths and pop-up shops. “Cloverdale Coffee Co., perfect example, is inviting Persephone Brewing and Sugar Patisserie in.”

As a business owner, Lloyd said last year’s event “was exciting to watch. There was lots of people, the weather was great.”

Every year the event has grown, said Lloyd, adding that they expect this year will be the biggest yet.

Some business owners said they saw a couple thousand shoppers walk through their stores last year, and some say they saw closer to one thousand.

“Most stores are too busy to count,” said Lloyd. “But we’ve had people asking us about this since the summer.”

This year the event will have choir performances, Ms. Santa will return to hand out free gifts, and, of course, Cloverdale will be decked out in all its Christmas glory.

“The Surrey Santa Parade is the next Sunday, so all of the decorations are up, the lights, the wreaths, it’s perfect,” said Lloyd. “It lends to the whole event.”

Shoppers can check out many downtown Cloverdale locations, including Abode, Clothesline Consignment, Cloverdale Vapor Room, Elemental Canine, Gypsy Moon, Hawthorne Beer Market And Bistro, Hansel Deli, The Henry, Lashionista Lash Lounge, Malary’s Fashion Network, Mason’s Home Furnishings , Mates Fashions and Uniforms, Michaud’s, Nana’s Antiques, Retro Mod, The Rustic Rooster, Surrey Hospice Thrift Store, Timeless Tattoos, and Salon Noir.

And that’s not including the Shop in a Shops, or the businesses that signed up for Ladies’ Night Out after the Cloverdale Reporter spoke with Lloyd in early November.

Several locations will also be fundraising for local causes during the event. Love Those Shoes will be donating 10% of sales to Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary families in need, Nana’s Antiques is raising funds to buy bikes for local children, La Belle Vie will give a portion of sales towards a local family’s Christmas, the proceeds from Inn for Women will go to women in need and CAEA will be donating $5 of each of their $20 t-shirts to a Cloverdale family in need.
