A collection of Christmas-card art forms the latest exhibit at Newton Cultural Centre, as part of a contest organized by the Arts Council of Surrey.

A couple dozen of images were entered in the annual juried competition, won this year by visual artist Ryan Broderick. His acrylic-on-canvas work, of a pair of snowmen, graces the cover of the arts council’s 2018 Christmas card, with verse created by Helga Parekh:

Your smile and a greeting

As you pass a stranger by

Might be the only reason

For them to smile that day

Let’s give it a try.

“Hello, Merry Christmas”

“Bonjour, Joyeux Noel”

Contest entries will be showcased at Newton Cultural Centre until Dec. 16, with a reception planned for Saturday, Dec. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m., at 13530 72nd Ave., Surrey.

“The multi-media images and verses captured the holiday spirit in all of us,” according to a story in this month’s Spotlight newsletter, published by the arts council.

“This year the jury selected something fun and nostalgic as the visual winner with a beautiful verse to match.”
