A romantic comedy that looks at the ups and downs of dating for the 45-plus crowd is the focus of the Surrey Little Theatre’s newest production.

Looking, written by Norm Foster, one of Canada’s best-loved, and funniest, contemporary playwrights, opens next Thursday.

Directed by veteran Rita Price and produced by Ellie Parento, Looking stars a foursome of seasoned actors from across Langley, Abbotsford and Fort Langley: Ken Boyd (who’s appeared on the TV series, The Killing), Patricia Braun (last seen in the SLT productions Murder of Crows and The Norbels), Pat McDermott (SLT’s Cactus Flower), and Kim Monsanto, whose previous credits include Arsenic and Old Lace and Bus Stop.

Looking is about four middle-aged singles who are looking for some kind of a relationship – long term, or one-night stand? They meet on a blind double date after Val agrees to meet Andy after answering his personal ad.

“I’m delighted the way the four actors have captured the essence of these characters and brought them to life,” said Price, who in 2010 directed Brighton Beach Memoirs for Vancouver’s Metro Theatre.

“They’ve taken Foster’s adult fun and games and poignant moments and mixed them together in what will be a hilarious romp for the audiences.”

Foster writes about ordinary people in everyday circumstances, creating funny situations everyone can relate to, Price says.

Looking runs Thursday to Saturday Jan. 26 to Feb. 18 at Surrey Little Theatre, 7027 184 Street, Surrey.

Showtimes are 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) Sunday matinees Feb. 5 and 12 at 2 p.m. Half price nights are Jan. 26 and 27. Call 604-576-8451 or reservations@surreylittletheatre.com. Visit www.SurreyLittleTheatre.com for more information.
