Fakes & Forgeries

Can you spot the difference between clever fakes and real artifacts? Learn how to tell authentic pieces from sly forgeries with this interactive exhibit. From the Royal Ontario Museum. On display February 11 to May 24


Echoes of Komagata Maru: 1914-2014

Personalized through image, sound and video, this exhibit tells the social story of the Komagata Maru – a steamship carrying 376 passengers from Punjab, India that was refused entry into British Columbia by Canadian immigration officers in 1914. The exhibit marks the beginning of a year-long project with partners including Khalsa Diwan Society, Museum of Vancouver, Simon Fraser University and Surrey Art Gallery to commemorate the centennial of this event. On display February 11 to July 12



Discovery Saturday: Celtic Fest

Experience all things Celtic! Be entertained by captivating Celtic music and dancing, learn about Celtic history through local community groups, and get creative with Celtic crafts. Saturday, March 15, from 1-4 p.m., all ages, by donation.


Spring Break family drop-in: all aboard

Steam into the Surrey Museum Station for train-themed family fun! Discover props and handle artifacts, play with train toys, toot our train whistle and create railway crafts. Tuesday, March 18 to Friday, March 21, and Tuesday, March 25 to Friday, March 28. From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All ages, by donation.



Tour the charming restored 1894 farmhouse, pole barn and heritage gardens, try old-fashioned crafts, take part in a program or special event, and imagine pioneer life at the turn of the 19th century. 13723 Crescent Road, Surrey. 604-592-6956. Heritage Family Days: Classic Stories

Drop in to the Farmhouse and enjoy simple, family-friendly tours and activities to celebrate classic stories enjoyed by generations. Saturday, March 8, from noon to 4 p.m., all ages, by donation.


Spring Break camps

Explore children’s classics during Spring Break at Historic Stewart Farm. Children will make connections between classic stories and present day life through crafts, activities, and storytelling. Tuesdays, set sail on the Voyages of Doctor Doolittle. Wednesdays, join Alice in Wonderland. Thursdays, dive 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The camps run March 18 to 20, and March 25 to 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 6 to 12 years. Cost is $75/three days. Participants can register for daily sessions or all three days. Pre-registration is mandatory by calling 604-592-6956.


Old-Fashioned Birthday Parties

Party like a pioneer! Celebrate your child’s special day the way kids might have done 100 years ago. An instructor will lead partiers in traditional games and a craft to take home. You supply the cake, and let the kids make the ice-cream! Saturdays, by appointment, 1-3 p.m., $13.50/child (birthday child is free). Minimum 6, maximum 12
