To Miss Carlile...

It makes the old wish warmer

And even nicer, too,

To have the chance to wish it

Especially for you

So 'A Very Merry Christmas'

One as cheery as could be

And a 'Very Happy New Year,' too,

For you especially!

The lines are from a Christmas card signed by Elizabeth Carlile’s class at Lord Tweedsmuir circa 1943. Images are the centre, back and front pages of the greeting card, which is among the treasures at the Surrey Archives. Surrey’s first high school turned 100 this year.

(Surrey Archives catalogue number 2012.0067.)
