Celebrating the Spoken Word
Stories come alive at Surrey City Centre Library, 10350 University Dr., with drop-in events featuring writers and open mic opportunities. This new event will be held the last Thursday of the month, 6:30-8:30 p.m., with a different theme each month. March 29 is Spring and New Beginnings; other themes TBA. Finding Your Scottish Roots
If you have a passion for Robbie Burns poems or the sound of bagpipes then this is the workshop for you! Presented by Lorraine Irving, an experienced researcher, on Sat. March 31st, 10:30 am – noon at Cloverdale branch of Surrey Libraries (5642-176A St). This presentation will cover basic sources including birth, marriage, death records, church and census records, cemetery records, and websites. Lorraine will also discuss wills, sasines, and military records.

The Fraser Health Crisis Line is recruiting volunteers to provide assistance to people in the region who are experiencing emotional distress. No previous experience is needed as extensive training and ongoing support is provided. Heritage Garden Volunteers
Help visitors discover Surrey’s agricultural past when you become a volunteer in the Historic Stewart Farm’s heritage flower, herb and vegetable gardens. Heritage garden volunteers plant and care for the gardens organically, and save seed from these old varieties to share with the public. Volunteers must have good basic gardening knowledge. The Oneness Gogos of White Rock/Surrey group is working under the auspices of the Stephen Lewis Foundation to support African grandmothers raising children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The Silvertone singers are a group of men and women 55 and older.
