Leading the way to social justice

In October, the Grade 7 Student Leadership Team at Adams Road Elementary attended the Vancouver We Day Celebration. Inspired by the stories they heard, the students wanted to hold a fundraiser to support a global cause. The students chose to support the Free the Children Drought Relief Campaign to support children and families in East Africa.

The student leaders held an assembly to share their We Day experience and to inspire students to support people in need.

On Jan. 20, the leaders held a coin toss event. Students brought coins and tried to land them on a large world map closest to the target area of East Africa. The students raised $500, which will provide clean water for five families for a month.

The Student Leadership Team organizes a variety of local and global fundraising efforts as well as planning and leading other school initiatives such as spirit days, lunch hour games, morning announcements and more.
