The ultimate gift

For those who need it, it's the best gift of all.

Canadian Blood Services is asking Canadians to give the perfect gift by donating blood this holiday season.

More than 101,000 donations of blood are needed to help hospital patients between Nov. 21 and Jan. 2.

It can take up to 50 blood donors to save the live of someone like Malorie Butler, a Halifax resident injured in a serious car accident last year who's helping promote the holiday blood drive.

"I feel as if I was given a second chance and it makes me feel like I have to go and do something extraordinary," says Butler, who jokes that she beat the odds because she's stubborn, thanks to blood donations.

Many treatments and procedures require blood products from several donors.

The next mobile clinic in Cloverdale is Sunday, November 27 at Precious Blood Catholic Parish, at 17475 59 Avenue. It's open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To make an appointment, please call 1-888-2DONATE, or book online at www.blood.ca.
