Call out to singers

The Langley Community Chorus begins their Fall/Christmas season Wednesday, Sept. 7. Registration is at 6:30 to 7:20 p.m., followed by the first rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. All Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass voices are welcome and there is no audition. Join us for our combined meet ‘n greet and registration night at the Langley Community Music School, 4899 207 Street. Our newly appointed music director Anita Comba has promised us another exciting season of interesting choral music. Writing Contest

The Arts Council of Surrey announces a writing contest. All forms of writing are welcomed. Poems: three poems, max 32 lines; fiction: novel selection, chapter, short story, max 3,000 words; Non fiction: articles, blogs, maximum 3,000 words; and plays or screenplays: maximum 30 pages. Crisis Line volunteers needed

The Fraser Health Crisis Line is recruiting volunteers to provide assistance to people in the region who are experiencing emotional distress. No previous experience is needed as extensive training and ongoing support is provided. South Surrey Soul Sisters

The newly formed South Surrey Soul Sisters meet the third Thursday of the month. We are working, under the auspices of the Stephen Lewis Foundation to support the African grandmothers who are raising an estimated 14 million orphaned children. Dance Lessons

Look good and feel confident on any dance floor, even if you’ve never danced before. Learn the two-step, jive, waltz, triple time, cha cha, and more every Friday night from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Cloverdale Legion Branch 6. Starting April 1. For singles or couples. No charge. Bring your feet and a desire to dance.

 

Bowl for the Animals

Have fun bowling and eat a veggie/vegan meal while you help animals in need. Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sundays from noon to 3 p.m. are fundraiser bowling days/nights for the Campaigns Against the Cruelty to Animals. A $20 package includes two games, shoes (non vegan), and a meal. You must call ahead one or two days in advance to reserve a lane and say you’re bowling for CATCA: 604-580-2600. Cloverdale Wood Carving Club

Meets from September to June Tuesday evenings at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School 6151 180 Street from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. The woodwork shop is in the back of the school.

Surrey Historical Society

The Surrey Historical Society meets every second Saturday of the month during September, October and November. There is a break over Christmas and meetings resume during February, March, April and May. The meeting is held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the lower hall of the Surrey Archives. Enter via the east ground floor door. Park at the Surrey Museum and Walk over.

 

Cloverdale Toastmasters

Overcome your fears of public speaking and learn how to communicate effectively. We’re a fun and encouraging club that can help. We meet Wednesdays from 7:30 -9:30 p.m. at Clayton Heights Secondary. Parkinson’s Self Help support group

In Surrey, White Rock and Langley for people with Parkinson’s, their family and friends. The groups provide an atmosphere of mutual trust for sharing tips and strategies for living a full life with Parkinson’s. Volunteers needed.
